Judith Hewitson developed Reality Learning (previously known as Online Documentary Training) to meet the high demand for professional development and IT training in rural and remote health services. 

Five Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities participated in the pilot "Joe's Story" from their remote locations throughout 1,727,000 square kilometres of Queensland, Australia: Palm Island, Lockhart River, Doomadgee, Horn Island, Bamaga.

Through communication between Indigenous communities, professional services, and the 'living' case study, the Online Documentary story of Joe developed into this successful model of training. This pilot has been funded by Networking the Nation and the Independent Living Centre Association of Queensland.

Cicada.net.au was established in response to a growing interest in implementing Reality Learning programs within a wide variety of settings, from rural and remote centres, to training organisations and schools. Cicada.net.au can offer tailored training programs or consultation for those wishing to implement their own Reality Learning programs.
