Australian E-Training Speeds China Quake Recovery

Chinese survivors from last weeks Qinghai Earthquake, and Sichuan’s 2008 quake are benefitting from innovative Australian on-line training in rehabilitation treatment. Over 82.96 million people live with a disability in China, and over 70 % live in the countryside, (2006 national sample survey).

Melbourne based eLearning company, Cicada, is delivering the second online module (Hospital Rehabilitation Practice and Research) to healthcare professionals throughout sixteen districts in China in order to accelerate patient recovery and increase their independent living after disaster.

Chosen for its award winning Reality Learning methodology, Cicada developed the Mandarin training program in partnership with The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, a collaborative body of The World Health Organization.

The edutainment program simulates local patient scenarios through fusing docu-drama film with Web2.0 interactive functionality. As participants treat virtual characters they develop social awareness of local concerns, appreciation of rehabilitation, and practical capacity to problem solve and transfer acquired skills into their professional work. Accessible and emotively engaging, Reality Learning is assisting in China’s National Goal: "Rehabilitation for All by 2015"

The unique Melbourne developed eLearning training platform is an innovative solution to advancing healthcare practices amongst doctors, nurses and therapists. View site.
